Student Laboratory Injury
A chemical splashed into the eye will be trapped against the cornea by the contact lens, increasing the likelihood of eye damage, and that vapors such as hydrogen chloride or ammonia are absorbed by some lenses and can cause severe irritation or injury.

Laboratory Student Injury Reporting Procedures
- IMMEDIATELY report injury to Principal Investigator or Laboratory Supervisor.
- Follow laboratory protocol for immediate first aid utilizing the Critical Event Guide.
- The Principal Investigator or Laboratory Supervisor must report all laboratory injuries to the Office of Insurance & Risk Management within 24 hours. The Laboratory Accident Report form is available online here.
- For non-life-threatening injuries, seek medical assistance at:
